A CUNY-wide effort to help Mexican and Mexican-American students succeed in all facets of life has emerged. The newly-created task force for Strengthening Education Opportunities for Mexicans and Mexican-Americans was developed in order to better address the social and educational needs of the local Mexican community. Areas of focus for the task force include community outreach, student recruitment, communications, scholarship opportunities and most importantly, dropout prevention services.
Youths are taking part in politics in ever greater numbers

Since the passing of the 26th Amendment, young voters have been consistently absent from the polls. Their underwhelming interest in voting has sparked "youth courting" recruitments in a couple of the last presidential campaigns with little success. Remember the 2004 "Vote or Die" slogan? It was cool enough to wear on a T-shirt, but failed to turn out young voters. However, this year's president campaigners have invigorated the apathetic young to show up at the voting booths and we are still months away from Election Day. What is their secret?
